Shadyside SON Admissions for 2014?

Hey everyone!

First of all, anyone else thinking of applying for this coming term?

So I'm thinking of applying to Shadyside SON for the winter/spring 2014, but I had a few questions that hopefully someone could answer. I'm graduating with a B.S. in Neurobiology and Physiology in the next couple of weeks, then moving to Pittsburgh in a month or so (all the way across the country!!). All of my core science and math courses grades are solid (in the A-B) range, but some of my upper division grades leave a lot to be desired (more in the C range). I really love my subject, but kind of lost sight of my goals the last couple of years which is incredibly UNmotivating as many of you probably know. Now that I've finally settled on nursing as a career choice I feel reinvigorated and inspired to work hard and do well!

But do my mediocre upper division grades completely dash my chances of getting accepted, or do they take PSB scores more into account when deciding who gets spots?

And should I address my underwhelming grades in my essay?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I will be starting at Shadyside SON this Fall 2013. Since I went through the application process I figured I would give you my thoughts. I graduated from college with a BS (biology major) in 2002, worked for six years in education, then decided it was time to go back to school for a career with a secure future, and also something that I would enjoy doing.

My college grades were okay but not stellar. The grades you described sound pretty much like what I had in college. I believe they take a lot into consideration when reviewing your application; college grades, PSB scores, letters of reference, person statement. I would not really worry about you college grades with regards to being accepted. Also, in my opinion it is not even worth mentioning in your essay.

I hope this helps with your decision. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.
