Yes, I am bringing this topic up again....
I'd love to shadow an NP, but am having trouble finding contact info. I do work at a hospital, so I do have access to the phone numbers of NP's, but think it may be somewhat rude/unprofessional to contact them directly (they're emails are not available). Working nights, it is actually pretty difficult to network, as the only people I speak with (besides other nurses) are the occasional hospitalist (who doesn't work with any NP's either). Your thoughts?
Obviously the internet makes finding people easier. What are your thoughts on calling the main office number of offices/clinics that employ NP's? I understand that this route may not get me many contacts, but it is probably better than nothing. If YOU are an NP, how would you feel about being contacted, and which means of contact would you prefer?
If you have been successful in shadowing an NP, what method has worked for you?
Thanks for the help!

Does your state association have a listing? Do you know an NP, or could you shadow at the clinic you use? At my hospital, I talked to HR who pointed me in the right direction of the contact I needed to set that up; I never really did talk to an actual NP until it was arranged by the office manager, though. My school also had a list of previous preceptors who were willing to shadow with contact info. Good luck!
Mom2cka, thanks for the response. These are excellent ideas. I think my next step will be to contact the state board overseeing NP's as well as checking with HR. I've heard that it is difficult to arrange a shadowing experience through HR, but hey it's worth a shot! Thanks again for the input.
