The wheels turn slowly in a big corporate hospital, and the staff probably does not have the time to deal with you until you've been properly cleared and have planned in advance for your arrival. I was just in your shoes and know how excited you are, but be patient. Enjoy your calm before the storm!

Hello All, this is my first time starting a thread on here. I've read many threads before and love how all of us nurses are there to help and support each other with ideas, comments, and suggestions.
I'm a new grad (graduated in May). I have been applying to numerous positions since June with no luck. Everyone wanted experience. Anyway, I interviewed for a position at a local teaching hospital and was offered a part time position on a pediatric floor which I accepted right away. The background check and the rest of the paper work is taking a long time to come back so I was wondering while I am waiting, should I email the nurse manager and ask for a few hours shadowing experience with a fellow nurse to get a jump start on my training and to meet the rest of the staff? Is this a good idea? It's been over three weeks since I accepted the job offer. The HR dept says they are backed up and that background checks may take up to two months so there's no way of knowing when I will actually start on the unit. I'm trying to be very cautious and just want to know if it is a good idea to ask the nurse manager for shadowing a fellow nurse or if I should just wait it out.
Thank you very much for any comments or help you can provide.
