SFSU pre-nursing student volunteer work questions

Published

I hope this is the right forum. Hi! I'm a pre-nursing student at SFSU, planning to apply to the BSN program in Fall 2013. For anyone that has been admitted to the program or anyone who has applied, I have a few questions regarding what type of volunteer work would really make my application stand out.

I found an opportunity to teach health topics to high schools in the Bay Area that don't have health education (most of the students come from low-income families) for next school year ('12-'13). I'm very interested in doing this. However, I'm not sure if it'd be something that really applies to nursing, and since it's a one year commitment, should I look for other volunteer work that would perhaps be more applicable? I would also like to volunteer at hospitals/clinics as well.

Should I forget this health teaching opportunity? Also, what type of volunteer work (hospital, health clinic, blood drive, etc.) would you say is the best? Any feedback is appreciated. Sorry if this was a confusing question!

:)
