Hi all
I am currently loosing my mind because I have been working so hard on this SFSU GMSN application and spent so much money on tutors, rushed transcripts (8 schools, AHH $$) , amongst other things and now I got my score back and it's .5 away from passing for the GRE. It has been my dream to get into the GMSN at SFSU and I feel like I have to wait a whole year to retry. I am still going to send my app (due Feb 1st) but I just need some encouragement! I am still 23 years young and graduated back in Aug 13 but I just feel so disappointed in myself!
Anyone going through similiar struggles or have any stories of people getting in with a 3.5
( I won't get my hopes up on that one!)

What do you mean 3.5 GRE score? There are 3 scores for GRE and no such thing as passing vs failing. Sounds like you're a little confused. Did you get a 3.5 writing score? That's pretty bad but I doubt it will prevent you from getting accepted, as long as your math and verbal scores are decent.
I know it's very bad......We only had to take the Analytical writting for this program. We didn't have to take all three. We just needed a 4 to get in.
Ohh ok. That makes sense then. I'm sorry to hear. But you're still pretty young so don't fret. Lots of people (including myself) took time off after finishing their undergrad. I'm very glad I did. My application is way better now due to all the volunteer experience, great letters of rec, etc. So now I can apply to top programs instead of settling for mediocre programs. I just had an interview at Yale and the program director told me that she really likes to see students who have taken time away from school and focused on exploring the field, volunteering, gained life experience, etc. It shows commitment and maturity. So honestly even if you got a 4.0 or above, you might not have gotten in since you're just graduating from undergrad. Not trying to put you down but rather to take the pressure off this one little thing on your application, when admissions looks at the whole application (life experience, personal statement, letters of recommendation, GPA, etc). Now you have the opportunity to work on beefing up your whole application and possibly being able to apply to a better school next year like UCSF, or at the very least being much more qualified to apply to SFSU and hopefully getting some scholarships, etc. My advice is to never settle for the minimum since most applicants will be beyond that. For instance, most schools I applied to had 3.0 GPA minimum but the average is 3.5.
Anyway, if you have to retake the writing portion, send me a PM. I got a 5.0 and can give you good tips for improving your score.
I cannot tell you how refreshing that was to read. I have been so down on myself lately and I honestly feel like this was an trial I had to go through in order to be prepared for next time. Already, I have planned to do things to better myself and my nursing application. Maybe i needed this time to truly realize that. I have been doubting myself all year and dreading this day to apply. I know that I can do this, I just have to worked twice as hard. Things have NEVER came easy for me. Thank you very much for your kind words. When I take the test again I will definitely send you a PM

sorry I don't think the 3.5 will get you in since it's required...I got a 4.5 on the writing, just applied, but none of my recs and transcripts are in yet...I HATE NursingCAS! They take forever to upload my transcripts and calculate my GPA
Let me know if anyone hears anything from the school...
Which specialty did you guys choose? I chose pediatrics
