Setting up an IV Piggyback

Hey Everyone -

I have a question about setting up an IV piggyback. You prime the 2nd line (without letting any of the med run out), alcohol swab, and attach it to the primary line. When you attach it, does the primary line need to be stopped? Or do you not touch the clamp and let it be until you open the secondary line and want to set the flow rate?

Thanks!

Personally, I hook it all up with the clamp closed. Our pumps won't let us program anything until "Stop" is pressed. I program the pump for the piggyback. I can usually get the clamp released before it starts screaming OCCLUSION at me. LOL.

Ah thank you

For testing purposes we don't use the pumps - it's all gravity
