Sept 2019 - RPN at Mohawk College

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Good afternoon, I just found this site and am excited to meet new people and fellow students. I just accepted my offer to Mohawk College in Hamilton this afternoon to start the RPN program for September of 2019. Anyone else? Perhaps we can connect and start a friendship? Always nice to have a friend in school.

I am a mature student, and a mom. I am just starting this career change and hope to one day complete the BSCN program to become an RN.

Can anyone in Mohawk comment on the program, timetable (examples would be amazing), how the courses are picked and if you can switch a class if one class doesn't work well with what your home life would need. What about textbooks? I read you can buy a bundle for 500 but does that cover all the books you need to get started? what colour scrubs do we wear and do we wear them every day or just on lab days? Hows the course load? teachers? anything or anyone to watch out for?

Sorry for all the questions but thanks in advance for the information.

mom~

I just finished the RPN program. Textbooks are crazy expensive. The main one you are easily between 120-160 each.

Good luck on your course. The mature students usually do very well in the nursing program. Too much to lose if we don't!

Hello Canaan, Thank you for the response. May I ask what your timetable looked like? I am so nervous I won't be able to attend a class if its really late in the evenings as I have to pick up my munchkins. Do you know if we are able to switch a course to a better time for our schedule if there is one happening at a better time?

I am hoping to get some used books if I can. I heard there is a bundle you can get for $500, is this not all the books you will need? How do I get a book list? Are you selling your books? or are they using different ones now?

How was the program for reading and assignments? I assume it is homework heavy above just the required readings.

How were your placements?

Sorry for all the questions

Hi momtorpnand beyond

All my classes were during day hours. I was able to drop my kid off at the bus and go to the college and pick her up again after school. It was such a pleasure having a decent schedule! Christmas off and weekends!! Don't stress out for the first year. The second-year gets more complicated. You will enjoy it. Focus on your anatomy class. You will be using the Evolve web site.

I was not able to switch course times. I could pick my lab times but they were all during the day.

I do have tons of books if you are interested to let me know when you get your booklist. It is the second year list that is very expensive BTW!!

If you have any more questions I would be happy to help.

I know my name is long here lol, sorry its all I could think of that wasn't taken lol.

We get to pick our time tables next week on the 7th so that will be exciting. I am a little surprised because there is nothing on the program sent to us. I thought we would have an information page for the program like my friend has at her school or a welcome information booklet so that you can get ready for class. I was hoping to be given a few weeks to get books and do the first weeks readings so I don't start off behind.

Is there a lot of assignments or essays? I was also told all tests and quiz's including exams are all m/c..I am not sure I believe that..

Did you write the CNO exam yet? how was that.

My friend at GB was given almost 200 pages to read her first day in 1 class...

I am so excited to start...lol time sure seems to be slowing as we head into the last month before nursing school. I do like they do 16 months straight. Keeps everything fresh on the brain for your final nursing exam. What were your placements like? I live in Mississauga so I am hoping they are not really far and that again my time table is good.

mom~

There that is shorter lol
