Selecting a school - ramifications

Published

Hi - I'm new to this site, so I hope I'm posting in the right spot.

I wanted feedback on my school selection. I am an RN of almost two years now and want to get my BSN. My schooling past is checkered and so have MANY (as in 180) credits, but my highest degree is an Associates. So I'm looking for a school that will take the most amount of transfer credits so I'm not have to take a ton of tidily GenEd classes when I'm just trying to get my nursing done.

I am considering two schools. The first one, although not prestigious, per se, is well recognized and a part of a large school net work. I also know many people who have been through the program and say it is a good place to get my RN-BSN done. This school, however, is not willing to transfer in very many of my GenEd classes and I am going to have to take about 30 hours before I even start the nursing portion.

The second school is on the other side of the country so I have only heard of it once in passing. I'm really not sure of their reputation. It is a school for adults returning to school and so they take pride in working with you on getting transfer classes in. I have not gotten my transcript eval from them yet, but just looking at their requirements, it looks like I'm probably only have to take about 9-12 hours before starting the nursing portion.

They are both accredited, regionally and through the CCNE

The question I have is - if I want to get my masters (maybe NP) after this, does the school I go into for my BSN affect my chances of getting into a good grad program?

Thank you in advance for your time and comments.
