Seeking job market picture...

I'd appreciate any feedback folks can give on what the job market is like going into the final months of 2010. For May '10 grads, are you seeing positions available? How many people in your class are getting positions? What regions?

Also, I'd be curious to know what level of turnout people are seeing at job fairs at their respective nursing schools. For two year (as opposed to accelerated) programs, is the employer turnout at the job fairs more than say last year? I've talked to a few schools and they said it was still bad but better than last year.

I made a comment to a friend that I was somewhat fearful of going into a field that EVERYBODY is trying to get into because if nothing else, it is going to provide employers with a deep pool of talent from which to choose. That means there's no upward pressure on wages or working conditions.

Everybody is trying to do this field and the schools are all too happy to oblige (out of greed, I believe). How else can we have posts on here where people are getting advanced nursing degrees without having worked any serious period of time as an actual nurse?

I would just like to have some level of confidence that I will be able to get something instead of just rolling the dice.
