I wanted to get few people's advice regarding going back to work. I have been out of hospital since 2007, and because I have two kids I was not able to go back until they went to school full time. The time has arrived, and both of my kids are in school full time. However, I have maintained working casual shift with a child who had CP up until 2009. Because I have not been out there, and my previous experience at the hospital was not pleasant, I haver fear I might do something or not know things that you need to know since I have five years of experience. You know some nurses if you ask them a ques you don't know the answer to, they might go tell on you, and tag you as not qualified working there. Even though they say ask if you in doubt. I don't believe in that. I fixed my resume, but I need that confidence to go back. Please let me know. I am a very compassionate nurse, but sometimes I ask do I need to go back to hospital, or do I change career. Working with staff, specially if you have not practiced critical thinking skills is not easy. You need to be tough, but how. It's not in my nature.

You might want to take a refresher course and brush up on your knowledge and skills while you are looking for a job. Regarding whether you need to go back to working in a hospital or change careers only you can decide that. I would recommend that you brwose at the specialties here in allnurses and see what specialty fits you the most. Some of them you might need to take extra courses for certification such as case manager, diabetes educator, wound care, etc...
Hope this helps.
