Seeking Advice for College Path

Published

Hello! Im a 17 year old high school student in Asia wanting to become a psych nurse somewhere in Canada or USA. For my bachelors degree, I was planning to take Psychology as I am interested in it and I initially thought I wanted to be a Psychologist. But I now realized that I really want to be a psych nurse instead.

The problem here is that I can't get a BSN degree immediately because I lack the necessary high school courses requirements (Im a social science student, so I have no biology, chem, etc). I also don't think I can go through a nursing school for 4 years, I just want to work at a psych unit, not ICU, ER, etc. Currently, my plan is to get a bachelors in Psychology and then take prereqs at a community college to get into an ABSN program. But Im not sure if its ideal cost-wise and time-wise since it means that I must study 3(?) times. I don't mind studying longer but it might be an issue because I would be an international student (the student permit thing). I heard there are other ways to become a nursing student like ADN, etc but Im not sure since Im not informed enough. Sorry if its too long, I hope other nurses or nursing students will help give me some advice on which college path I should take!
