Founded in 1882, Virginia State University (VSU) is one of Virginia's two land-grant institutions, located just 20 minutes south of Richmond in the village of Ettrick. The 231-acre campus overlooks the Appomattox River, offering expansive views of Petersburg and featuring 11 residence halls, 18 academic buildings, and a 412-acre agriculture research facility.

With a student population of approximately 4,000, VSU provides an outstanding education in natural and health sciences. The College aims to prepare students for careers in industry, research, public schools, and health professions. Additionally, students are equipped to pursue further education in graduate or professional schools, such as medical, dental, pharmacy, and physical therapy programs.

Nursing Studies at Virginia Stae University 

Virginia State University's (VSU) RN to BSN Online Completion Program provides a flexible, affordable pathway for RNs to further their education. This fully online, part-time program is designed to fit the busy schedules of working nurses, offering personalized attention from experienced faculty.

The program equips nurses with the skills to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care across various settings, emphasizing inclusive healthcare practices in both rural and urban areas. By integrating academic learning with practical experiences, the program fosters interprofessional collaboration and evidence-based practice. Graduates are prepared for career advancement and further education, meeting the growing demand for nurse educators and advanced practice nurses.

Nursing Program Accreditation

VSU is actively pursuing initial accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). A site visit was conducted from October 29 to November 1, 2023, but the accreditation approval status has not yet been disclosed on the university or CCNE websites (as of 06/2024).
