Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The foundation of the curriculum for the BSN is compiled of biological, social sciences, and humanities. Along with theory, clinical courses are offered in area hospitals and in community health agencies. The capstone practicum during the student's senior year applies curriculum concepts in a precepted clinical experience.

The honors-in-major courses are available to students who have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.75 in NURS courses and cumulative GPA of 3.4, or nursing students who are in the University Honors Program during the end of sophomore year in nursing.

Requirements

  • Grade of 'C' or better in high school Chemistry, biology, physics
  • Undergraduate nursing students - minimum of 128 credits
  • Prerequisite courses - grade 'C' or better
  • Major courses - minimum grade of 'C'
  • Police, drug and alcohol screening through approved vendor, fingerprinting, CPR, and select immunizations and titers

Graduate Programs

Students in the Graduate Program in Nursing (for RNs with a degree) have three options for clinical tracks: 

Clinical Nurse Leader

After graduation, the student will be an advanced generalist in the role as a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL). The graduate is eligible to sit for the CNL national certification examination.

Evidence-Based Nursing

This track is focused on developing advanced generalist nursing practice on a specialized area of study. There is an intensive clinical practicum that requires students to apply clinical concepts and evidence-based research.

Family Nurse Practitioner

This program prepares FNPs to give specialized care to all patients across the lifespan. The FNP is able to diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic illnesses. Graduates are eligible to sit for national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. After graduation, there is the option to enter the doctoral study program.

There is a full- or part-time status available.

Accelerated Master's

Qualified senior students at UNH have the option to be admitted to the Graduate School as long as they followed normal application procedures. To be considered for the graduate program, students should hold a 3.2 cumulative GPA.

Admission for Senior Accelerated Master's Students

  • Must hold a GPA of 3.20
  • Complete the undergraduate degree
  • Pass graduate courses taken for credit with a grade of 'B-' or better
  • Students accepted under accelerated master's follow the Clinical Nurse Leader or Evidence-Based nursing track. The RN license must be obtained prior to the beginning of any clinical course in the accelerated master's program

BSN Admission Requirements

RNs who have successfully passed the NCLEX-RN and currently hold an unencumbered active RN license in the U.S. and who hold a BSN are considered for admission to the Clinical Nurse Leader, Evidence-Based Nursing, or the Family Nurse Practitioner track. Applicants are required to have a good academic record and completion of coursework in statistics and research.

Non-BSN Admission Requirements

RNs whose baccalaureate degree is in a discipline other than nursing may apply to the MS program and will be considered for the track that is commensurate with their clinical experience.  If an MSN has been conferred, students may apply to the Post-Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program.

1.  Unencumbered, active RN license in the U.S.
2.  Baccalaureate degree in another field
3.  Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in associate and baccalaureate programs
4.  Nursing experience preferred but not required
5.  Successful completion of undergraduate statistics and undergraduate research
6.  Interview may be requested

Direct Entry Master's in Nursing

The Direct Entry Master's in Nursing program (2nd degree) is designed for the student that has a desire to go into the field of nursing but holds a BA/BS or higher degree in a field other than nursing. The program is a five-semester, 71-credit, full-time course of study.

Clinical Nurse Leader requirements: 300-hour clinical immersion experience and finish the degree in the Clinical Nurse Leader Capstone course. 

After completing 62 credits of accelerated study, the student is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN. Students sit for the Clinical Nurse Leader national certification examination in their final semester and graduate as an advanced generalist with an MSN, and upon passing the certification examination, as a Clinical Nurse Leader.

Post-Master's FNP Certificate

The PM-FNP specialty prepares nurses to give comprehensive care that focuses on health promotion, maintenance and restoration for people across the lifespan. After completion of the program, the RN is eligible to sit for the Family Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination.  All course work for a certificate must be completed within 3 years from the date of enrollment.

Post-Masters Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate

This full-time certificate program combines the convenience of online learning with clinical practicum experience through a minimum of 500 clinical hours and two (2) on-campus residences throughout the program. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The DNP program is an online post-master's, practice-focused program that prepares leaders in practice.  Two visits to campus are required -  one for a 2-3-day intensive residency early in the program and a second to present and defend the DNP Project in the final semester.  The courses are 100% online.

The University of New Hampshire is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the nursing program.
