Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Pre-Licensure

This program is designed for students that have graduated high school. Students enter as pre-nursing students and can be completed in three years including 1,200 clinical hours.

Accelerated BSN (ABSN)

The Accelerated BSN program is five semesters and designed for students that hold a bachelor's degree in another field. The program can be completed in less than two years with 1,200 hours of clinical time.

RN to BSN

The RN-BSN program is designed for currently working RNs. This is delivered online and does not require students to come to UMKC. Courses utilize Blackboard and are held in synchronous and asynchronous modes.

Each state has different registration and approval regulations for online degree programs offered within their state. We are not approved to offer online degree programs in all states.  Please review the regulations in your state.

  • 56 credit hours in general education coursework as outlined by the SONHS

  • Graduation from a BON approved school of nursing; graduates of diploma or non-accredited ADN programs may be admitted on provisional status

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) (45 credit hours)

  • On campus residency each semester during clinical courses
  • Applicants must have the equivalent of 2 years full-time clinical practice experience (within the last 5 years) as a RN in the care of critically ill neonates or infants with the majority of experience being in a level III or level IV NICU

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The post-baccalaureate DNP curriculum is designed specifically for BSN prepared or MSN prepared RNs with a generalist (non-APRN) or nursing education focus.

The Post-Master's DNP curriculum is for nurses who have already earned an MSN degree. 

A mandatory Summer residency every year is a requirement of the program at the Kansas City campus. If needed, clinicals can be arraigned to be near the student's home location.

Onsite Track

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies and Truman Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia partner in this Nurse Anesthesia DNP program.

The first 12-months of the 36-month program begin with building a foundational knowledge in the sciences. Academic knowledge is then integrated with clinical experiences during the last 24-months through completion of anesthesia courses, simulation, and clinical training.

Attrition

Attrition for the May 2018 DNP graduates was 0%; the May 2019 DNP graduates (as of June 3, 2019) have a 7% attrition rate and the May 2020 graduates (to date) have a 0% attrition rate.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The PhD program utilizes online and distance education modalities. A two 4-day Summer institute is required.

The post-baccalaureate entry option is designed for BSN graduates with an unencumbered license as an RN.

The PhD program uses Web-based software. Blackboard is the program used for classes and are conducted in synchronous and asynchronous modes.

The Higher Learning Commission accredited the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the baccalaureate, master's and DNP programs.

The Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) accredited the Nurse Anesthesia education track of the DNP program.

The Truman Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia is fully accredited and certified to award the Certificate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies is fully accredited to award the Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree.

The Truman Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia received a maximum 10-year reaccreditation with no citations or recommendations for change in 2015 by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
