Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN)

The online RN to BSN program can be completed within one year by taking 2 courses every 8 weeks. The clinicals are completed within an area in which the student resides.

A Public Health Nurse Certificate is available to BSN students from the BRN for California licensed RNs upon completion of the RN to BSN program.

  • Official transcripts from previously attended colleges or universities
  • Credits from accredited institutions will be accepted in transfer with 2.5 GPA or greater
  • Valid, unrestricted, unencumbered RN license from the U.S. or Canada

MSN - Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

The Family Nurse Practitioner student is provided the opportunity to care for those in a variety of settings and communities. In 2017, the school added a Telehealth model for all students who complete the FNP. Graduates will also receive a certificate in Telehealth.

This program is not an exclusive online program. There will be a requirement to come to campus 3 times during the 2 years of the program. All immersions are mandatory starting with a virtual orientation at the beginning of the program.

  • Active, unencumbered RN license in state of residence
  • Active, unencumbered California RN license

MSN - Nursing Leadership for Health Systems Management Innovation

Another Master of Science in Nursing program offered is the Nursing Leadership for Health Systems Management Innovation that has a focus on transformational innovation. This program is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to become nurse leaders and entrepreneurs of the future.

MSN - Online Education and Education Technology

The MSN program also offers an Online Education and Education Technology program for nurse educator entrepreneurs and consultants. This program has a focus on improving patient outcomes as new health care delivery models come into existence.

Applicants for all BSN and MSN Programs Must Have the Following:

  • Background clearance
  • Proof of negative drug screen
  • Current professional liability insurance
  • Current personal health insurance
  • CPR certification for Healthcare providers by American Heart Association
  • Proof of: negative TB skin test or appropriate treatment; two doses of MMR or titer; Tdap immunization within the last 10 years; Varicella immunization or titer; Hepatitis vaccine series or titer; annual influenza vaccine; additional laboratory tests, immunizations and/or documentation as deemed necessary

Graduate Certificate in Online Education and Education Technology

This is a unique graduate certificate available to MSN or DNP students who want to learn how to design curriculum and courses utilizing the latest technology and teach in hybrid or completely online nursing programs. 

Online Certificate in Nursing Leadership For Health Systems Management Innovations (2018)

The online certificate program is designed for BSN students who have a desire to hone their skills in nursing leadership.

Admission requirements for the Online Education/Education Technology & Nursing Leadership Certificates include an application for admission, official BSN transcripts, and unencumbered RN license in state of residence.

Online Certificate in Telehealth (2018)

The Telehealth Certificate program is delivered exclusively online, with optional on-campus experience with equipment.

Admission requirements include, application and documentation of ADN, BSN and/or post-BSN degree transcripts.

Post-Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate

The Post-Graduate Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certificate is only open to cohorts 1, 2, and 3 graduates of the FNP program.

Post-Master's Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certificate (2019)

The Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certificate (ENP) is designed for the nurse practitioner (FNP, PNP-Primary Care, Adult-Geriatric Primary Care NP) working in an urgent care or emergency department setting. It has a focus on emergency medicine. Graduates are eligible for certification as an ENP.

NOTE: This certificate does not provide the education to become certified as an acute care nurse practitioner for the adult-geriatric or pediatric populations.

A minimum of 13 credits is required for this certificate. All courses are online except the 2 day ENP 650A that is delivered face-to-face over a weekend.

NOTE:  Currently, United States University is not approved to enroll students from Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts or Minnesota in any Degree or Certificate program.

Approval and Accreditation

The California Board of Registered Nursing approved the BSN and Family Nurse Practitioner programs.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the BSN and MSN programs.

United States University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
