    In 1959, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San AntonioTM), a public institution, was established.

    UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing has been educating nurses since 1969.

    Undergraduate


    Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

    The Traditional BSN track is designed for students that have no prior education in the nursing field. It is 24 months in length.

    Accelerated BSN

    Another option is the Accelerated BSN that is 15 months in length. In order to qualify for the accelerated BSN program, students must currently hold or attain a non-nursing baccalaureate degree prior to the start of the nursing program.

    Traditional and Accelerated BSN Admission Criteria (not all inclusive)

    • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
    • Minimum 3.0 math/science GPA
    • Minimum 65 cumulative score on the TEAS Exam
    • Prerequisite courses; applicants who do not hold a baccalaureate degree from a Texas public institution will need to complete 51 of the 60 semester hours of required prerequisite courses

    Graduate


    Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

    Students have the choice of many tracks including Administrative Management, Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

    General Admission (not all inclusive)

    • Official transcript(s) from each post-secondary institution attended
    • BSN from CCNE, ACEN or NLNAC accredited program
    • Interview
    • Licensure as a RN in Texas or compact license with Multi-State privileges
    • BLS for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association
    • Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner majors will need to possess ACLS certification through the American Heart Association
    • Current required immunizations
    • Current health insurance
    • Criminal background check

    Alternate Entry Master's Degree

    Post-Graduate Certificate

    Students that specialize in Nursing Education, or a Nurse Practitioner specialization in Adult Gerontology Acute Care, Family, Pediatric, or Psychiatric Mental Health, have the option to obtain a Post-Graduate Certificate.

    General Admission (not all inclusive)

    • MSN from nationally accredited School of Nursing (ACEN, NLNAC, CCNE)
    • Completion of a graduate course in health assessment, graduate pathophysiology, and graduate pharmacology with grade of "B" or better
    • Official transcript(s) from each post-secondary institution attended
    • Interview
    • Licensure as an RN in Texas or Compact license with Multi-State privileges
    • BLS for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association
    • Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner majors will need to possess ACLS through the American Heart Association
    • Current required immunizations
    • Current health insurance
    • Criminal background check
    • Basic computer skills

    Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

    The DNP program is designed for students who hold a Master's degree in Nursing and who have nursing specialty preparation at the graduate level.

    The DNP program is not available to residents in some states. Prior to applying for admission, please verify the program is available in your state.

    • MSN from accredited institution (ACEN, CCNE, NLNAC)
    • Official transcript(s) from each post-secondary institution attended
    • Interview
    • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state where your clinical/practicum hours will occur
    • Proof of current national certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (for Advanced Practice Leadership track only)

    The School of Nursing is actively pursuing approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to deliver a BSN to DNP pathway.

    Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

    Program entry is available for students at the Post-BSN or Post-MSN level.

    • BSN and/or MSN from a nationally accredited school of nursing (ACEN, NLNAC, CCNE)
    • Licensure as an RN in Texas or compact license with Multi-State privileges    
    • Official transcript(s) from each post-secondary institution attended
    • Three letters of professional reference
    • Current resume or curriculum vitae
    • Essays 
    • Graduate Record Examination General (aptitude) test (verbal and quantitative sections) taken within the last 5 years
    • Interview

    Accreditation

    The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the baccalaureate, master's, and DNP programs.

    The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
