The Oberlin Home and School, a homeschool founded in 1885 by Miss Emily C. Prudden, served as the foundation for Pfeiffer University. When the Methodist Episcopal Church's Women's Home Missionary Society took over property management in 1903, the Ebenezer Mitchell Home and School replaced the Oberlin School. The adoption of elementary studies by county schools allowed them to eliminate lower grades and focus their resources on college-level coursework. In May 1996, the Board of Trustees decided to transition Pfeiffer's academic structure to that of a university. Pfeiffer University is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The university is known for its strong emphasis on service, leadership, and experiential learning.

- RN-BSN Degree Completion
Hands-On Learning Experience
Enrolling in the nursing program offers numerous benefits. The nursing programs at Pfeiffer University aim to develop knowledgeable, competent nurses who are eager to help and capable of taking on leadership roles in addition to working at the bedside. As a small, nonprofit liberal arts college, the institution provides individualized mentoring to help students realize their full potential. In this supportive environment, students can confidently pursue their goals and objectives. The mission of the Nursing School is to ensure that graduates are skilled medical professionals and forward-thinking leaders ready to impact their field significantly.
Mode of Learning
The RN-BSN program is available online to accommodate the busy schedules of registered nurses. Students can pursue their education at their own pace. On the other hand, the BSN Programme is conducted on campus, offering students a traditional college setting with accessible professors, practical experiences, and the opportunity to connect with classmates in person. This dual approach allows students to choose the best classroom setting for their needs and plans.
NCLEX Pass Rates
Pfeiffer's nursing graduates take the NCLEX in May, June, or July after their May graduation. In 2019 and 2020, BSN graduates achieved an outstanding 100% on the NCLEX-RN exam.
Admission/Acceptance Rate
The Nursing Program accepts 20 students every fall, demonstrating its high competitiveness. To be considered for admission to the upper-division nursing major, students must first fulfill the prerequisite requirements. This involves submitting a regular application, obtained from the Admissions Office, to Pfeiffer as a pre-nursing student. After completing these prerequisites, students can submit a nursing application during their sophomore Spring semester.
Accreditation
The baccalaureate degree programs in nursing at Pfeiffer University are approved by the NC Board of Nursing and are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
