In 1934, the Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God founded Northwest University (NU), a private, not-for-profit, Christian university.
Northwest University's Mark and Huldah Buntain School of Nursing
The university offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BS) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees.
The Nursing programs at Northwest University Mark and Huldah Buntain School of Nursing are unique from other nursing programs as students learn to integrate faith into their nursing practice.
Students have the opportunity to study abroad at NU. Every year, the students, along with the professors, have the opportunity to travel to different countries to experience how different cultures view evidence-based Nursing and medicine.
Undergraduate
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
After successfully completing the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN. They then become eligible for state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Admission (not all inclusive)
- Graduate of accredited Associate Degree in Nursing program
- Minimum of 18 months part time to full time clinical nursing practice in direct client care
- Clinical RN nursing practice is current and within two (2) years of application to the RN-BSN Online Program
- Current and unencumbered RN license in Washington state
Graduate
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a generalist degree program. The program is 100% online and includes a "scholarly project".
Admission (not all inclusive)
- Accredited BSN degree
- Minimum of 18 months part time to full time clinical nursing practice in direct client care
- Clinical RN nursing practice is current and within two (2) years of application to the MSN Online Program
- Current and unencumbered RN license in Washington state
Frequently Asked Questions
Where will I be doing my clinical rotations?
Hospitals that provide students the opportunities for clinical studies include Providence, Swedish, Seattle Children’s, Evergreen, and Overlake. Many graduates receive job offers at these facilities.
How many students make up a "cohort"?
The cohort is compiled of 54 students. NU’s School of Nursing has the ideal blend of highest quality education and a supportive and caring learning environment.
What is the spiritual atmosphere like on campus?
Even though the students come different backgrounds, NU students share one common ground - a commitment to Jesus Christ. Chapel, Life Groups, worship, and outreach opportunities are some of the ways NU students are involved in the faith community.
Will I be able to graduate in four years?
In four years, all of NU's degrees are able to be completed. Before the next semester, Academic Advisors work with students to ensure that they are registering for the classes they need to complete their degree.
I see NU has travel abroad integrated into the BSN program. What countries are included?
Students have the ability to travel to one of the many countries such as Kazakhstan, Kenya, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Mexico, and various countries in Africa.
Accreditation and Approval
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accredited Northwest University (NU).
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing program at Northwest University's Mark and Huldah Buntain School of Nursing.
Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission approved the nursing program.
