    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) (California)

    The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is a foundation for nurses to begin their bachelor degree level of nursing care. Bachelor prepared nurses are able to critically think, using their knowledge to provide care to individuals, families, and communities. 

    Graduates are eligible to take the licensure exam called the NCLEX to earn a state license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).

    Licensed Vocational Nurse - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LVN-BSN) (California)

    Admission requirements (not all inclusive)

    • Hold a current, active, unrestricted license to practice as a licensed vocational nurse in the state of California
    • Attend a Pre-Nursing Program Information Forum
    • Complete all required prerequisites courses
    • Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills
    • Complete a proctored written essay

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - RN Completion (RN-BSN)

    Online program

    The RN to BSN program is geared towards the working RN. RNs who desire to complete their BSN degree can in do so in a 100% online program. Courses range from 4-8 weeks in length.

    Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)

    1. At least a 2.0 cumulative GPA from all regionally accredited institutions attended
    2. Current, active, and unencumbered RN license in the state of residence
    3. Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers
    4. Current, active professional liability and malpractice insurance coverage for practicum courses
    5. Official transcript from each college or university attended

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Post-Bachelor Degree – Accelerated BSN (California)

    This program is designed for individuals who currently hold a bachelor’s degree (i.e., B.A., B.S.) and wish to continue and become licensed as a registered nurse while simultaneously earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

    Requirements (not all inclusive)

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students must complete at least 180 quarter units, 45 of which must be completed in residence at National University, 76.5 at the upper-division level, including the University General Education requirements. If credits do not transfer, additional general electives may be necessary to be able to meet the unit requirements. Those who wish to complete their degree in Nevada must complete a course at Nevada Constitution.

    Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)

    • BSN prepared from an accredited school of nursing (State Board of Nursing, and CCNE and/or NLNAC)
    • Proof of current, active, and unencumbered RN license in the state of residence
    • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) specializations require one (1) year of acute care RN experience

    Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP)

    The hybrid program can be completed in as few as three years and includes a 15-month didactic residency at the Fresno campus and some online classes.

    Online and on-campus coursework focuses on health organizations and systems analysis, quality assessment and improvement, leadership, policy analysis, and the implementation of evidence-based practice initiatives.

    The DNAP program includes a front-loaded didactic model with on-site didactic and high-fidelity simulation courses. The second phase of the program includes clinical courses at an affiliate hospital where you will gain hands-on experience administering anesthesia to patients across the age spectrum and in all surgical specialties under the direct supervision of a CRNA or anesthesiologist mentor.

    Graduates will be prepared to sit for the National Certification Exam (NCE) to become a CRNA.

    Admission Process (not all inclusive)

    • First, apply to National University
    • Apply then directly to the nurse anesthesia program via the supplemental nurse anesthesia application
    • Those who apply and meet the screening criteria will be invited for a personal interview with program staff and local clinicians

    Accreditation and Approval

    The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, the master’s degree program in nursing, and the post-graduate APRN certificate programs at National University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

    The Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) accredited the Nurse Anesthesia Program.

    National University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

    The Nursing program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
