Loma Linda University (LLUSN) is a private, non-profit, Seventh-day Adventist, coeducational health sciences university.

The School of Nursing, established in 1905, was part of a group of schools that in 1961, became Loma Linda University. In 1949, the School of Nursing granted the first baccalaureate degree; master's degrees in nursing were granted in 1957. The School of Nursing now offers the PhD and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs.

Undergraduate

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

LLU's School of Nursing program holds a partnership with the Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children's Hospital, offering students quality training with a variety of options in the nursing field.

BA/BS to BS in Nursing

The LLU School of Nursing BA/BS to BS track is for those with a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing. The School of Nursing offers the student the option to apply to the MS (or BS to DNP) program upon completion of a BS.

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to BSN

If the applicant holds a California LVN license, they are eligible to apply to the LVN to BSN program.

Undergraduate Requirements (not all inclusive)

  • Current, unencumbered California LVN license (applicable to the LVN to BSN program)
  • Minimum college cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 3.0
  • All prerequisites with a "C" or better
  • Personal statement
  • Official transcripts from all college credits
  • Pre-entrance exams (TEAS & Critical Thinking)
  • Three letters of recommendation (2 from instructors)
  • Completion of HS or equivalent including official high school transcripts

RN to BSN

Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)

  • Current, unencumbered California RN license
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all college coursework
  • All prerequisites with a "C" or better
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all college credits
  • Completion of HS or equivalent

Graduate

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

There are two programs offered at an advanced degree level: the Nurse Educator (NE) and Nursing Administration (NA). Both are master's level degrees that prepare the student for a position in higher education or nursing administration.

Admission Requirements for (not all inclusive)

  • BSN from a regionally accredited program
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0, both cumulative and in nursing courses
  • Current, unencumbered United States RN license
  • One year of RN experience
  • Nursing experience is preferred in the area of desired clinical concentration
  • Personal statement

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

BSN to DNP

The program is for students that have previously earned a bachelor's degree or higher in nursing.

Specialty Concentrations

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Adult/Gerontology

Graduates will be prepared to provide care to a wide range or adults, ages 18 and above.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Pediatrics

The focus of the program is on the needs of children from birth through adolescence, or 18 years of age.

Nurse Practitioner Adult/Gerontology (AGNP)

Graduates will be able to provide care to a wide range of adults, ages 18 and above.

Nurse Practitioner Family (FNP)

Graduates will deliver primary care to patients from newborn to elderly.

Nurse Practitioner Pediatrics

The program focus is on the needs of children from birth through adolescence, or 18 years of age.

Nurse Practitioner Psychiatric

This program helps the student learn to concentrate on the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention, and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance within a variety of settings.

MS to DNP

The program provides students with the training necessary to translate knowledge gained through nursing research into quality nursing practice.

Admission Requirements for Post-Master's Degree to DNP (not all inclusive)

  • Master's degree in nursing from program accredited by CCNE or NLN
  • Undergraduate and Graduate GPA of 3.0, both cumulative and in nursing courses
  • Current California RN license
  • Writing sample

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

The DNP Nurse Anesthesia concentration offers a full time, 39-month, didactically front-loaded graduate curriculum for CRNA students. Both traditional classroom and hybrid distance education formats are used to deliver content. The first year is hybrid in design, requiring minimal student on-campus attendance. The remainder of the program utilizes distance education technologies to enhance course effectiveness.

Graduates are awarded a DNP and are eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination of the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

BS/MS to PhD

The curriculum builds on the foundational information and skills acquired through BSN education, and on the advanced knowledge and expertise gained in MSN education.

Accreditation and Board Registration

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges fully accredited Loma Linda University.

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the BS, MS, and DNP programs.

The Nurse Anesthesia program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).

Baccalaureate graduates are prepared for registration for certification by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.

The State of California Board of Registered Nursing certified NP and CNS Advanced Practice Nurse graduates for professional practice.
