Liberty University (LU), a private, non-profit, Evangelical Christian university located in Virginia, was founded in 1971 by Jerry Falwell. The Carnegie Classification labels LU as a doctoral research university.

Liberty University has a School of Nursing that prepares nursing students to become excellent nurses with a foundation of commitment to their Christian ethical standards.

Nursing (BSN) – Residential and Global Studies

The School of Nursing offers a four-year curriculum which is a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. The curriculum includes 131 credits, 54 of the credits are general education requirements, 16 are natural science support courses, and 61 credits are nursing courses.

There is an option for Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree students to graduate with a Global Studies Cognate. Through this option, students will take courses such as Cultural Anthropology, Global Health Nursing Field, and Cross-Cultural Nursing to help prepare them for nursing in a mission-related field.

RN to BSN – Online

Liberty University's RN to BSN is designed for nurses that hold an RN. The program takes 2 years to complete and is 100% online.

RN to BSN to MSN Accelerated

Liberty University added a new program that allows the Registered Nurse to complete the BSN and MSN degrees online in as little as 3.5 years.

Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Business Administration (MSN / MBA) - Dual Degree

LU's Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Business Administration (MSN / MBA) - Dual Degree is a degree program that is 100% online. Students gain the business work skills to excel in business leadership, organization, and structure while integrating that information seamlessly into the nursing aspects of healthcare.

Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MSN / MSHA) - Dual Degree 

Liberty University's Master of Science in Nursing / Master of Science in Healthcare Administration (MSN / MSHA) - Dual Degree is also a 100% online program. This degree program prepares the nurse for placement in the healthcare field with knowledge and skills essential to identifying and addressing a variety of administrative and nursing situations as well as marketing strategies.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

This program is mostly online but incorporates three intensive hands-on courses. There are two pathways available:  Post MSN DNP and Post BSN DNP/FNP.

Post-MSN DNP

The Post-Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) to DNP degree pathway only enrolls nurse leaders, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists. There is a residency program with practicums in this course pathway, with an online component. If approved through your state's approval process, practicum hours may be available in the student's area.

Post-BSN DNP/FNP

The Post-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to DNP degree pathway adds additional training for students to become eligible to take a national certification examination as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The program is an online format with a residential component and practicums. This program is available only in residence at the campus in Lynchburg, VA.

The Certification boards for Family Nurse Practitioners include: The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Doctor of Nursing Practice - Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner 

LU's Doctor of Nursing Practice Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner is arranged in order to allow graduates to sit for the American Nurse Credentialing Center Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner national exam.

  • A maximum of 50% of the program hours may be transferred

Nursing International Clinical Mission Trips

Nursing students are given the opportunity to travel and experience hands-on clinical training and utilize nursing skills while providing needed services and health education in countries like, Haiti, Rwanda and Guatemala.

The Virginia State Board of Nursing approved the online RN to BSN program.

The Virginia Board of Nursing approved Liberty's Registered Nurse program.

The online RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Nursing as well as the Doctor of Nursing Practice programs.

Liberty University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
