History Of Lakeview
In 1894, Lakeview College of Nursing (LCN) started as Danville Training School (DTS) and was for nurses as a hospital based training school. From 1911 through 1937, after approval from the State Of Illinois, Diploma nursing programs were offered. In 1937, certificates were awarded for nurses. In the early 2000s, the Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing program was established and in 2014, there was an expansion made to the college offering more classrooms, computer labs and offices. In 2015, the lab expanded to allow more simulation models and lab equipment.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) at Lakeview College of Nursing is a traditional four-year degree with a focus on liberal arts and sciences. Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam and be licensed as an RN in their state. They then have the option to transition into a master's or doctoral level degree program.
Accelerated Track
This accelerated track is a stringent program that allows students to complete the nursing portion of their BSN in 16 months. Students must maintain at least a 3.0/4.0 LCN GPA if they choose to accelerate (more than 8 credit hours during the summer and more than 17 credit hours during the fall/spring).
Those who hold a previous bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better from an accredited institution of higher education will be exempt from completion of any unsatisfied general education requirements.
Traditional Track
The 21 Month Plan is the traditional track that nurses will do during their BSN completion. This track does not include a summer semester.
Paced Track
This 21-23 Month Plan allows students the option to complete the nursing curriculum for the BSN program with less credit hours per semester than the other tracks. This track includes one or two summer semesters, depending on when students start (Fall or spring). There is a paced-track option to begin in the fall or spring.
LPN and RN Completion Tracks
The LPN and RN completion tracks are for nurses who are already licensed, practicing Nurses. Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses will be awarded credit for their previous education and skills.
The licensed LPN must have at least three years of practice, have graduated from an accredited Nursing Program, and must be fully admitted to the nursing program at LCN to receive credit for previous courses.
Registered Nurses (RNs) who have graduated from an accredited RN associate degree program or hospital-based diploma program are eligible for the BSN program. There will be credit awarded to those who have previous experience and previous education.
Part-Time Track
The part-time program requires all clinical courses be completed within 6 years. Those who do not meet this deadline must repeat the course. This rule applies to ALL students of Lakeview College of Nursing, including those readmitted to the program after a dismissal, withdrawal, or leave of absence.
Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)
- Minimum 45 credit hours completed at the time of application
- Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
- Admission Test Scores
- 60 Credit Hours in General Education and Prerequisite Courses with a grade of "C" or better
- Prerequisites from regionally accredited college or university
- CLEP Examination Credit for equivalent general education and prerequisite coursework - Limitations of credits earned: (1) duplicate credit in the same subject is not awarded in any case; (2) the total number of credits that may be awarded is limited to 30 credits
Accreditation and Approval
The baccalaureate degree in nursing at Lakeview College of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Lakeview College of Nursing is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
Lakeview is currently on probation for a first-time NCLEX-RN pass rate below 75%, but has received continued program approval on May 4, 2018 from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's Board of Nursing.
