King's College was established by the Congregation of Holy Cross priests and brothers from the University of Notre Dame in 1946. The college's mission was to educate the sons of miners and mill workers who worked nearby and were employed in the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. The college's Administration Building serves as a reminder of its ties to the coal mining industry. It was created by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham in 1913 to house the Lehigh Valley Coal Company's headquarters. The institution houses a prestigious nursing school that is well-known for providing excellent nursing education.
