Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) was founded in 1964 and is the largest public institution of higher education in the Philadelphia region. Community College of Philadelphia is also the sixth largest public institution in Pennsylvania.

Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS)

Students of the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) program attend classes at the college. Students receive hands-on practice under the guidance of nursing faculty in a variety of health care agencies throughout Philadelphia. They also receive simulation practice in the labs under faculty supervision. Nursing students have evening or weekend clinical laboratory assignments (if assigned).

Applicants must complete 64 credit hours as required and attain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better with no grade below 'C' in any course.

The deadline to complete the nursing courses is four years from the date of admission to the nursing program.

After successfully completing the program, students receive an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) degree. Graduates are then eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination and upon passing the exam, are eligible for state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Prerequisites (not all inclusive)

• High school diploma or GED
• Biology 106, Chemistry 110
• Two years of college preparatory math with a 'C' or better
• Placement in MATH 118 and ENGL 101
• GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Science courses must be less than 10 years old
• Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the first day of the semester in which they begin the Nursing designated courses

Requirements Upon Admission (not all inclusive)

• Complete physical examination including required laboratory test results and immunizations
• Students will be asked to complete the Essential Functions document
• Criminal background check (felony convictions within the past ten years result in denial of admission to the Nursing program; felony convictions more than 10 years old will be evaluated for consideration for admission; misdemeanors will be evaluated for admission consideration
• Child abuse clearance
• Drug screening clearance

Advanced Placement Option - Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Medics/Corpsmen

The Advanced Placement Option is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Medics/Corpsmen, and candidates that hold at least one year of previous successful nursing school experience in the U.S. through Credit by Prior Learning Assessment for Nursing 101. All admission requirements must be completed to be considered for the program. This includes successful completion of Health B9026, the noncredit transition course, before advanced placement is granted. Students who meet these criteria are admitted on a space-available basis.

Application Requirements (not all inclusive)

All Advanced Placement Option applicants must complete the following courses, with a 'C' or better by May 31st prior to the anticipated September transition course and January enrollment.

• GPA of 2.75 or higher
• CHEM 110, FNMT 118, BIOL 109, DIET 111, ENGL 101 w/grade 'C' or higher
• LPNs must submit a current, active LPN license in good standing from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
• Transcript(s) from the LPN school
• Medics/Corpsmen must submit evidence of honorable discharge from a branch of the U.S. military indicating training and service as a Medic/Corpsman

Accreditation and Approval

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited the CCP Nursing program.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education accredited the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP).

The Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing approved the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) program.

BestColleges.com listed the Community College of Philadelphia in their Best Community Colleges in Pennsylvania (2018-2019).

Community College of Philadelphia's Nursing program is one of 15 in the country to be chosen as a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing.

The nursing program is recognized for "Enhancing the Professional Development of Students". This is the College's fourth consecutive designation as a Center of Excellence.
