Academic Programs


Registered Nursing – Associate Degree in Nursing

The RN program for the Associate Degree in Nursing is two years in length with admission requirements completed before becoming eligible for the program. After successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). After successfully passing the exam, he or she will then be eligible for state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Nursing Bridge – LVN to RN

The Nursing Bridge program is a Hybrid program based at the Phoenix North Campus that is about one year in length. The Phoenix North Campus awards the certificate program. The courses are didactic courses online and hands-on laboratory courses and are offered at the Glendale Learning Center. Those who graduate from the program earn an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successfully passing the exam, he or she will be eligible for RN state licensure.

Admission Requirements (may not be all-inclusive)

  1. Be at least 18 years of age
  2. Pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with an overall composite score of 62
  3. Current unencumbered LPN license for the State of Idaho
  4. Documentation of at least two month's employment as an LPN; minimum of 8 hours per week
  5. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) CPR certification
  6. Written statement of interest
  7. Criminal background check
  8. Drug screen
  9. Negative 2 step PPD test results (positive 2-step PPD test results require documentation of a negative chest X-ray/physician follow-up
  10. Provide proof of MMR titers or immunization records of MMR booster within the previous five years, hepatitis B vaccination or positive titer, varicella immunization or positive titer, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) booster (within previous 10 years), receiving an annual flu vaccine

Practical/Vocational Nursing (LPN/LVN) Certificate/Associate Degree

Licensed practical nursing or licensed vocational nursing gives you the career to help physicians with patient care. Carrington College's Practical Nursing/Vocational Nursing program offers classroom instruction and hands-on training. Clinical settings offer real-world experience as they provide comfort and confidence to practice as an LPN/LVN. The program is one year in length and students receive a certificate at the end of the program. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon successfully passing the exam, he or she will be eligible for LPN state licensure.

There is also an opportunity to earn an Associate Degree. To be eligible for entrance into the Associate of Science (non-science or science emphasis) degree program in Vocational Nursing, applicants must have earned a Certificate of Achievement in Vocational Nursing from an accredited program.

Admission Requirements (may not be all-inclusive)

  1. The School of Nursing requires that the student is 18 years of age prior to clinical activities
  2. Pass the required HESI A2 entrance exam with a score of 71% in math, reading, and writing and a 56% or better in vocabulary
  3. Pass a background check and a drug screening prior to enrollment (at the applicant's expense)
  4. Provide negative 2-step PPD results. Positive 2-step PPD test results require documentation of a negative chest X-ray and physician follow-up documenting no evidence of active tuberculosis (TB)
  5. Provide proof of MMR titers or immunization records of MMR booster within the previous five years,  hepatitis B series or positive titer, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) booster (within previous 10 years), varicella titer showing immunity or proof of immunization, receiving annual flu vaccines
  6. BLS American Heart Association certificate/card

Accreditation and Approval

Carrington College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC).

The Registered Nursing program at the Reno campus is accredited, with conditions, by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The Registered Nursing program at the Phoenix East campus is accredited, with conditions, by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The Arizona Board of Nursing certifies that the Mesa, Phoenix East, and Tucson campuses have satisfactorily fulfilled requirements and are granted full approval.

Carrington College holds approval for the Reno campus from the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

The New Mexico Board of Nursing certifies that Carrington College is granted full approval in the State of New Mexico.

The Board of Nursing for the State of Texas granted initial approval for Carrington College Mesquite to offer an Associate of Science in Nursing Degree.

The Practical Nursing program at the Boise campus is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The Idaho Board of Nursing issued a certificate of approval for Carrington College for its Practical Nursing program and its associate degree professional nursing education program.
