Academic Programs
Registered Nursing
The RN program for the Associate Degree in Nursing is two years in length with admission requirements completed before becoming eligible for the program. After successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). After successfully passing the exam, he or she will then be eligible for state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Practical/Vocational Nursing (LPN/LVN)
Licensed practical nursing or licensed vocational nursing gives you the career to help physicians with patient care. Carrington College's Practical Nursing/Vocational Nursing program offers classroom instruction and hands-on training. Clinical settings offer real-world experience as they provide comfort and confidence to practice as an LPN/LVN. The program is one year in length and students receive a certificate at the end of the program. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Upon successfully passing the exam, he or she will be eligible for LPN state licensure.
There is also an opportunity to earn an Associate Degree. To be eligible for entrance into the Associate of Science (non-science or science emphasis) degree program in Vocational Nursing, applicants must have earned a Certificate of Achievement in Vocational Nursing from an accredited program.
Admission Requirements (may not be all-inclusive)
- The School of Nursing requires that the student is 18 years of age prior to clinical activities
- Pass the required HESI A2 entrance exam with a score of 71% in math, reading, and writing and a 56% or better in vocabulary
- Pass a background check and a drug screening prior to enrollment (at the applicant's expense)
- Provide negative 2-step PPD results. Positive 2-step PPD test results require documentation of a negative chest X-ray and physician follow-up documenting no evidence of active tuberculosis (TB)
- Provide proof of MMR titers or immunization records of MMR booster within the previous five years, hepatitis B series or positive titer, tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) booster (within previous 10 years), varicella titer showing immunity or proof of immunization, receiving annual flu vaccines
- BLS American Heart Association certificate/card

Carrington College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC).
The New Mexico Board of Nursing certifies that Carrington College is granted full approval in the State of New Mexico.
The Practical Nursing program at the Boise campus is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
