I used to be an OR nurse so my contact with parents or any family members was always blessedly short. School nursing has been quite a shock to my system.

Yes, quite a few of them do suck.

Especially if the parent works at the school, they are the entitled, rules and policy don't apply to parents.

This has been the worst year ever for parents...BSC parents,.I case manage a lot of 504 plans and they have driven me crazy this year.

I swear, each year these parents get worse and worse!

Mostly my problem is benign neglect. It's February, and I still haven't received some of the yearly emergency info/health permission forms. (I've sent them out about 5 times, and in two cases, handed them over personally to parents who were picking up their kids.)

Ironically, some of the kids without consents are some of the biggest users of the health office...

THIS x10.

I recently had a student with 100+ temp and hives and no health form, and 1 phone number that was out of service. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

YES!!

I've noticed it all seems to be part of the same package. The kids who are late, who use the nurse (legitimately and as work avoidance), who never seem to have their stuff signed for the teacher, parents who don't respond to referrals from the nurse, and the parents who don't show up to parent-teacher conferences. It's the same kids who do all the above and it's pretty sad. The parents just put their kid on the bus and think it's all they have to do as parents. Some of them don't even do that--I have some KN and 1st graders who get themselves ready in the morning. And then we wonder why they didn't eat and don't have a coat on in winter weather.

Sometimes I feel like I am working harder for these kids than their parents are.

I'm a school parent.

And a staff member!

And a staff member!

Reminds me of the old "Hair Club for Men" commercials- "I'm not just the president of Hair Club for Men, I'm also a client!!"
