The Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund is an umbrella that supports 3 separate scholarship opportunities. One is for American Legion Auxiliary Junior members, another is for the Honorary National Junior President, and one is for participants in the American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation program.

Deadline

March 1, 2021, of each calendar year

Girls Nation Program Scholarships

Annually, ALA Girls Nation awards scholarships in the following amounts to assist with the recipients’ college education expenses:

  • ALA Girls Nation President $5,000
  • ALA Girls Nation Vice President $2,500
  • ALA Girls Nation Outstanding Senator $3,000

Criteria

  • Attendees at the ALA Girls Nation Program in Washington, D.C.
  • Selection is made via vote by their peers
  • Scholarship monies are dispersed directly to the four-year accredited college or university per the recipients’ direction
  • May be used for tuition, books, fees, and other appropriate expenses

Honorary National Junior Division Vice President

Annually, each of the Honorary National Junior Division Vice Presidents receives a $2,000 scholarship to assist with college education expenses.

Criteria

  • Attendee at one of the ALA National Junior Meetings held in conjunction with the American Legion Auxiliary Mission Training
  • Selected via vote by peers
  • Scholarship monies are dispersed directly to the four-year accredited college or university per the recipients’ direction
  • May be used for tuition, books, fees, and other appropriate expenses.

Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior Members

The American Legion Auxiliary annually provides one Junior member in each of the five American Legion Auxiliary divisions with a $5,000 scholarship.

Criteria

  • Applicants must be in their senior year of high school
  • Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA using a 4.0 scale
  • Must have held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the immediate past three years
  • Hold a membership card for the current year
  • Continue to maintain membership throughout the four-year scholarship period.
  • Scholarship monies are dispersed directly to the four-year accredited college or university per the recipients’ direction
  • May be used for tuition, books, fees, and other appropriate expenses
