The National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) is a competitive federal program that awards scholarships to students pursuing eligible primary care health professions training leading to a postgraduate degree or postgraduate certificate from a school or program in Nurse-Midwifery (CNM) or Nurse Practitioner (NP).

Details (not all-inclusive)

  • This program covers the costs of four (4) years worth of tuition, fees and other “reasonable education costs" as well as a monthly stipend
  • Applicants must agree to serve in an “area of greatest need” after program completion, certification, etc.

Eligibility (not all-inclusive)

  • A United States (U.S.) citizen (U.S. born or naturalized) or U.S. national
  • Enrolled as a full-time student (or accepted for enrollment)
  • Attending—or accepted to attend—an accredited school or program in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia (D.C.), or a U.S. territory

Nurse Practitioner

  • Program of nurse practitioner education, pursuing a postgraduate degree or postgraduate certificate
  • Must be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Must lead to national certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, or the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board as a nurse practitioner in one of the following specialties:
    • Adult medicine
    • Family medicine
    • Geriatrics
    • Primary care pediatrics
    • Psychiatric mental health
    • Women's health

Certified Nurse Midwife

  • Program of nurse-midwifery education, pursuing a postgraduate degree or postgraduate certificate
  • Must be accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives, Division of Accreditation
  • Must lead to national certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
  • State Nationwide
