Hi Guys,
As you can see from my name I am a medical assistant, not nurse. Looking for just a little insight on the current dilemma I'm facing at work. My doc wants for us ("us" meaning MA's, but REALLY meaning ME) to do wound dressings on patients from time to time and this I am just not too comfortable with. Some of the patients that come in to see us have huge, pusing, gaping sores on their bodies and she asks of me to dress them. When I asks her what she wants done exactly, I'm simply told to cover them with gauze and tape and send them on their way. (Until they can get an appt with wound care, that is.) I guess my question to you is, does this sound safe? I mean, I guess its the same that they would be doing to themselves at home anyways but my paranoia has gotten the best of me only because its not something that was covered in MA school, although its not exactly rocket science.
Any tips on how I can better dressings? What's a basic dressing?
