So I got a DUI in March, was out with friends and I should not have drove after drinking but a male friend was making me very uncomfortable with his advances so I got in my car thinking I could drive away from him then call someone. But I hit a curb and a pole. Anyway I’m almost out of the court probation, I have one more month. I self reported to the BON with the help of an attorney and I just heard from HPRP asking me to call for an intake and do an evaluation and all this stuff. I’ve read horror stories about the program and I 100% want to avoid it. I am not a big drinker, I have not drank in months and I’m usually only a few times a year drinker normally. I’m scared out of my mind. My attorney said he will contact someone at hprp for me on Monday. Does anyone know what I can expect with this process? Is there any way out of a monitoring agreement?

In my experience, the HPRP eval is mandatory. Based on that evaluation, they will decide if you require a monitoring contract. My eval took months and I had to random drug test during that time. I also had to pay for a psych/addiction evaluation by one of their recommended addictionologists. I did pass the eval and was told that I did not need monitoring so it is possible to pass.
Thanks for your reply, so did you still get put on probation with the board even though you passed hprp eval? If so what does probation consist of? How much were the evaluations? If you want you can email me at [email protected], I’d love to know more about the evaluation process. Thank you:)
My initial complaint was in august of 2019 and the board is still reviewing my case to determine what my “punishment” will be…. Which is completely ridiculous. The evaluations varry depending on the doctor, it was approximately 500-800$

Hi JIm, Were you allowed to work between 2019 and 2021 while the board was reviewing your case? I will probably be reporting to HPRP later this year and am trying to get a sense of what happens after the report and how long it takes. Any information would be helpful. Thanks so much,
The board is still reviewing my case to this day! Since 2019!! So yes, I have been able to work. While HPRP completed their initial evaluation, approximately one year into this saga, I was also aloud to work. However, I think if there had been more clear evidence of being under the influence or diverting, that work would have been restricted or monitored (I’m honestly not sure, can’t remember that far back). Also, I did not self report. I was mandated by the state to undergo HPRP evaluation and I passed, deemed not appropriate for a monitoring contract. So that will be different if you are thinking about self reporting.

Jim,
Did you have to submit for an eval because of an OWI? I am being forced to submit for an evaluation after a my OWI/DUI? I'm wondering how likely it is to pass the eval with proof of a BAC level.

Hi MIRN,
I was deemed ineligible for HPRP after being referred due to an OWI. I don't know your circumstances, but I would recommend hiring a lawyer. They will help coach you and tell you the evaluator who is most likely to not recommend tx.
