San Antonio hospitals

Published

I have seen an occassional thread about the hospitals in San Antonio, but I haven't found my answer yet. I was wondering if I could get information from those working in that area.

First, I was wondering if my husband and I are living near the dental school, which hospital would overall be the best to work at considering pay, location, environment, and other information that is appropriate like health insurance, 401ks.

(As a side note, I have only been to San Antonio once and that was just for a few hours. Additionally, we will be arriving May 1st)

Second, I hear University is a good place to work. Good pay...is this correct?

Third, where you you suggest not to live?

Fourth, are there referral programs?

Thanks so much, this will alleviate much anxiety.

I work at Methodist Children's Hospital (MCH) nights on the pedi IMC. MCH is one of many hospitals in the medical center. University Hospital is one of the 3 level I trauma centers in San Antonio, the other 2 being the BAMC & Wilford Hall... the 2 military centers.

There are tons of hospitals in San Antonio, most in med center (by the dental school) but more are coming up all over town like in the northeast & west sides of town. I like Methodist, the pay is ok but the work environment (staffing, staff voice) seems better here. Base pay is around $27, tack on shift diffs, weekend pay, etc & I find it fair. We just got holiday pay @ Methodist....... LONG OVER DUE.

Many hospitals have bonus plans or "flex pay" for short staff/busy seasons. Flex @ Methodist is like $40 an hour..... I'd rather we'd got holiday pay sooner I guess it will even out in the end.

Living by the medical center is an option, housing ok & it will definitely save time as traffic is a bear in this town.... I recommend living in Northwest area, good schools if needed. My husband's is military so it's works best for us in this area.
