Samuel Merritt University ABSN Fall 2013 San Mateo

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone!

I haven't found a thread for SMU ABSN Fall 2013 San Mateo yet, so I decided to start one. :) I was wondering how many of us are out there and waiting to hear back. I'm getting anxious!:nailbiting:

Hi!!! I had searched on SMU too. Isnt it a private college that does fast track?

Hi ConfusedNur,

It is a private college (imagine how expensive:dead:) and they do offer a fast track or accelerated BSN program.

Hello!

I also have applied to SMU's San Mateo ABSN program for Fall 2013... The last I heard from SMU was at the end of April when I received this email:

"Good afternoon! I am pleased to provide you with an update of your application for Samuel Merritt University, Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), fall (November) 2013. Your file will be transported from the Office of Admission (Oakland) to the San Francisco Peninsula Learning Center (San Mateo) on 5/2/13 for additional review and reading by the School of Nursing faculty. "

The email included some FAQ's about the release of admission decisions...

Q: When will I hear about admission?

A: *It may be sooner* but will be no later than the close of the week of June 17th. Please remember that it is a process; I’ll need to notify those who are accepted, waitlisted and denied and not everyone can hear at exactly the same time. But as soon as I know decisions and have finalized and triple-checked my lists, I will release the decisions.

That date is fast approaching and I am getting very anxious!! I hope to hear from them sooner so the wait can be over!!

Good luck to everyone... Lets keep each other updated!! :)

Though the program cost is a bit steep, you must also factor in that the ABSN program is only one year in length so the price quoted is for the whole program. Most other BSN & ABSN programs are much longer and the price is per year... so in the long run its not a terribly expensive program, especially since you will be graduated & working in the nursing field in just one year!!

@anxiously_waiting: I received the same email. I was hoping earlier than later!:( But we only have a few more days! The anticipation is killing me right now! Good luck to you and everyone else that applied or is applying. And I couldn't agree with you more, I think your education is an investment and the one of the few things to really financially invest in plus we'll get out in a year! That's always great too:yes: Keep us updated and I'll do the same. Again, good luck and hopefully we'll see each other in November!;)

Hi all,

I just wanted to keep anyone looking for information for this cohort. I unfortunately received an email today stating that I was not admitted. I hope other have better luck! Now, I'm on my way to start the application over again. =) GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!

Hi everyone - I will be attending this program in the fall and am hoping to connect with people in the cohort. Has anyone in this thread confirmed their attendance at this point? I was unable to make the mixer in San Mateo this week and would love to say hello to those who were able to be there. Thanks!

Hey CKCK, I'm also admitted with the fall 2013 ABSN cohort in San Mateo. I've been looking all over to see if there's a way to get a head start of getting books & supplies etc. Also, do you know if we get to wear scrubs to class?

I saw in the handbook that there was a section about clothing requirements - I believe that there are specific uniforms we have to purchase. Were you able to go to the mixer last month?

I just got the email today that says we have to wear white tops and blue pants to clinicals and skills labs. Classes are casual dress. I didn't know about the mixer, otherwise I'd have gone. I still need to do my CPR certification and figure out all the health forms etc. Also, I was trying to see if there is a bookstore at the San Mateo campus, but the only one that came up was in Oakland. Is it possible there's only one? Seems like they'd have one at each campus...
