I too got accepted for the spring 2017 cohort. have you heard anything yet about orientation? I've been checking my mail religiously waiting to hear when it is. I think that will help us get a good grasp on what to expect.

When the class schedule comes out for spring, take a look at first semester n 407 and it will have the orientation dates!

SCC alum here: You should expect to have Orientation sometime in December, probably mid-month. You should receive (soon) a list of things you'll need to bring to Orientation and certainly at Orientation you'll receive a bunch of info about what you'll need to bring the first day of class.

The first week is going to be doing paperwork, ensuring you have all the required stuff for class (CPR cards, etc), going over the green sheets, and (probably) being divided into your clinical groups.

The first 5-6 weeks will be be your longest days in the classroom because you'll be there both for classroom and lecture times and you'll be learning the very basics of nursing skills and assessments that you'll eventually be tested on before they will allow you to go to the hospital. Sometime during those first weeks you'll also do an orientation to your clinical site.

It's going to be tough and very busy but you'll get through it. Fortunately for you, the first exams will be primarily knowledge-based, like you've done through your prerequisites but you'll also eventually start transitioning to NCLEX-style stuff toward the end of the semester.

I had to work during school and full-time at that. It completely blew partially rotted chicken chunks but I got through it. I was lucky in that my work schedule generally meshed with school. They will require that your schedule bend to the school's schedule because they will NOT be flexible at all because their clinical times are fixed and cannot be changed. This is because other programs also have clinical times scheduled at the same hospitals you will be at and the programs are NOT to mix during clinical times.

If you can do it, do NOT work during nursing school, if you must work, work absolutely as little as possible.

My last tidbit of advice is that you need to learn as much as you can and be as solid as you can be at your N407 stuff because the next class (2nd semester) will be extremely hard and is a weed-out class. IF you get through 2nd Semester, you'll probably make it all the way through.

Thank you so much for all the unformation , I really appreciated . I just received an email from the nursing department informing me that the student package is available for pick up. I'll be picking it up next week. I saw in another blog that theirs a Med calculation test pretty early in the semester . Any suggestion on what website or books to buy to study before hand? Thanks again!
