So I know you are thinking " this is a nursing forum not a respiratory one so why are you posting here"? That would be a fair statement to ask, but I know many RN's who rate this site very highly. Truthfully my associations forum does not get many topics/replys so I thought Id try here for some advice.I'm a second semester ( 2nd block in your world) RRT student In Arizona and I'm about to start my first clinical rotation next week. What advice can you give on starting a rotation for the very first time? I would be lying if I said I was not nervous. I'm not into mechanical ventilation yet but if any of you RN students *happen to have a respiratory question please feel free to message me. Thank you again for taking the time to reply to my question. Take care.

Hello! I'm in nursing school, so I don't know what to expect exactly with respiratory, but I can tell you a bit about clinicals in general. Come prepared the best you can. Research anything you don't know before hand. Ask questions of your instructors if you have them. They will not think you're dumb, they are teachers and they love to hear that you're thinking enough to formulate a question! Patients respond I. One of two ways to students. They either are mad about being "experiments" and think you will kill them, or they love you so much. I know in nursing many of the elderly people are excited because it is like having a personal assistant for the day. It is hard not to be nervous, but you will get over that quickly once you're actually doing stuff. When I was doing certain skills for the first time, I would be so nervous. When I went in to actually perform them, I was so focused on the task at hand that it was hard to be nervous about it! Remember, you will do great. This is what you want! You just have to work hard at it and you will come out just fine!
