who makes more an RN or an ultrasound tech????? starting out?? i keep looking it up but i get to many diffrent answers. Im so confused which one is it?????I want to be in this field more than anything:redbeathe However I need to know my facts....
Why make a decision about your future on salary alone? Don't get me wrong. Salary is very important but in regards to Nurse vs US Tech there's not enough difference to make yourself miserable being in a field you don't love.
Both jobs have their rewards and downfalls. Listen to your heart not your pocketbook.

I thought since you're on a nursing forum and said "this field" that meant you wanted to be a nurse more than anything. Sorry, my mistake.
i cant choose bettween i would love to do both, just cant make up my mind, why not go for the one that pays more?
If you'd be equally happy in either field than I see nothing wrong with going for the one that pays the most. There's actually very little difference in the starting pay. With alot of experience ultrasound techs can earn more than nurses.
You usually get paid more for nights and weekends. Anywhere from 1-4$ more. I get $2 an hour more to work nights, and another 3$ an hour on top of that on weekends.
I think in general ultrasound techs earn maybe 5-10 more an hour than RNs, in the hospital at least. But you have to take call (in a hospital, anyhow), and there aren't as many Ultrasound Tech jobs as there are for nurses. Aren't as many ultrasound techs competing for those jobs, it's true, but I still think your options are much more limited than nursing.
I suggest you try to shadow some ultrasound techs and some nurses, and find out what their jobs are like. Also look up the curriculum for each. I think that ultrasound techs are required to take a lot of physics and science, more so than nursing. If you like those things, great. If not, you might want to reconsider.
Consider, too, that if you do one and then find you don't like it, it is not the end of the world. Then you go with plan B, which would be to go to school for the other. You are young, you have plenty of time.
