RN ? NP ? Confused

So I'm trying to figure out some things and I'm still a bit confused. My mother was telling me that I don't need to go through schooling for becoming an RN before becoming an NP. I'm really confused on what the difference between the two is and if this is true. I just know I want to go into nursing but there are so many different types that I'm confused which you must go to schooling for first and the main differences are between them all.

You must go through RN school before becoming an NP.

You can do an online search for RN and NP and I am sure you will get a lot of detailed info.

Basically an RN is a registered nurse who usually works in a hospital giving direct patient care. You can either get an Associate's Degree or a Bachelor's. A Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse (you need your master's degree) who works usually more in collaboration with an MD in an office (or alone) and you provide services that are closer to what an MD would do.

Thats the basics of the difference between the two. Do an online search for the types of NP's, the types of RN's (you can specialize in a lot). Good lucK!
