Hi! I have 2 questions that I would like RN opinions on.
1. What are different settings that I could work in besides as hospital that are easy to find secure jobs( I've heard its very hard, I just want your opinion)
2. This will probably sound very immature, but I have a problem getting my blood taken. Is there anyway to get over this? And will it be easy to take others blood if I have trouble getting my own taken. Any advice on how to get over the childhood fear of needles in veins?

To answer the second question first, you'll be exposed to doing and seeing this so often you'll probably become immune to the idea. Besides, it's a lot easier to stick someone than to get stuck.
As for outside hospital settings there are LTCs, doctor's offices, clinics, employee health jobs (usually requires hospital experience first), dialysis centers (lots of blood, though), community health settings, home health, schools, hospice. I'm sure there are more but alot of those require experience in a hospital first. At this point in the economy none of these is particularly easy to find.

I'm with you on the fear with needles thing. I literally passed out when I got my ears pierced. I still cannot watch when I have blood drawn or get an injection. However, I can give shots and draw blood with no problem. I got over that issue during nursing school. It really is easier when it's not you that's being stuck!
