RN First Assistant Program

I am still a student but am interested in becoming an RNFA after getting some OR experience. I have two questions:

1. Does anyone know of a complied list of RNFA programs offered in the US, or anything of the like?

2. How many years of perioperative experience did any of you RNFAs have before you entered your RNFA experience?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!

here is the aorn official statement on rn first assistants: http://www.aorn.org/practiceresources/aornpositionstatements/position_rnfa/

one qualification is cnor which requires 2 years experience in the or before becoming eligible to take the exam.

another qualification is completion of an rnfa program (some are self paced but usually about a year).

the certification agency that you will go through is http://www.cc-institute.org.

here is a list of their approved programs http://www.cc-institute.org/cert_crnf_prep_rnfa.aspx check the programs carefully as only a few are offered online.

wish you the best!
