RN or BSN?

Published

So, here it is. My dream is to be a traveling nurse. I have always had the traveling bug, and have exercised it since I graduated high school (in 06). I have taken classes in South Dakota and Seattle, and now I'm living in Hawaii. I'm starting to feel a bit strung out academically speaking.. All the advisors I have talked to have customized my classes to specific nursing schools in the areas I happen to live in at the time. I'm 15 credits short of my AA degree (online with Seattle), and have taken some nursing related pre-requisites, but now I'm terribly confused about how to go about nursing school. They all seem to have different admission policies, curriculums, and pre-requisites. I don't trust school advisors because they (in my experience) can only advise on nursing schools in the area. I want to apply everywhere/anywhere I can for nursing school so I have a better chance of starting right away.

Do I even need my AA? Or would it be easier to get my RN then bridge to BSN? My point being, I have classes from SD and WA to finish my AA, and now I'm looking to enroll at HI to finish my nursing pre-requisites. This seems to be a dark and long tunnel.. I can't find the light at the end, because I'm not going to nursing school in HI.

Sorry if you have troubles making sense of this posting, please ask questions if you need clarity. It's been festering in my mind while I'm taking my online classes that I'm scared are unnecessary to my goal. Thanks.

Your definitely going to have to do some research on your own. No matter how much you hate it every school is going to have different admission requirements and different point systems. Its just the way it is. If there are orientations for nursing schools go to them. I'm from southern california and researched about 10 schools in my area and figured out which ones I should apply to. Generally all schools want anatomy and physiology. some schools offer it as separate courses and some offer them together in which you would take A&P 1 and A&P2. Microbiology is also another requirement for all the nursing programs. Some require a chemistry course. I would advise to get all your general education courses before you start the program because when your in the program thats what you want to focus on. Some schools even require that you have your AA or all your GEs done. If you have any other questions feel free to ask :D
