I recently retired from my Union, Staff RN Nursing (BSN) job on the floor after 30yrs. It was a state hospital with pension, so I was able to "retire" at 30yrs and start collecting a pension & health ins. However, I am still young, 53. I want to work another 5 yrs full time in nursing in order to pay off some debts (Home, car, etc) to get my expenses down. I retired March 1. I thought that I'd look for another job after about a month now it is June 19 and I have not worked since my retirement. Been busy taking care of sick in-laws. So my new plan is to take off until mid-Aug. and then actively look for a new job. I am wondering, if the 6 months off will hurt me as far as finding a new job? I don't feel that I've lost any skills. What would employers think? Or would it even matter, seeing that I have 30 yrs experience.
