Retaining Info AFTER the Exam?

hi there,

I'm almost done with prereqs and waiting anxiously to hear from my 1st choice program. I've done very well in classes so far--have a 4.0 GPA in my prereqs, having taken Chem, Gen BIO, A&P 1&2, Micro and Dev PSY in the past 10 months (phew!). My average is usually the highest in the class--over 100% in most classes.

My problem--I don't seem to be able to RETAIN the information after the test is over. I know it cold for the exam, but then it seems to just fly out of my head!! For cumulative finals, I am able to review and it comes back to me, but then it's all gone again after the class is done.

Does this happen to anyone else?? Any suggestions on how I can keep the stuff in my head for longer?? I'm worried about NS and retaining everything in order to pass the NCLEX in a few years! :uhoh3:

I'm sure in NS, all the information will be kinda repetitive so it will become like 2nd nature. I'm that way with the sciences. I've just taken so many classes, the info has been beat into my head.

I have several friends who are RNs and, from what they've told me, very little of what is in the pre-reqs is even necessary to remember! One, who works in cardiac care in the hospital, says the only thing she remembers from ANP is that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. She does know a lot about the anatomy of the heart, but that's because she's worked in that area for 17 years. I think you kind of learn by experience a lot of the things that are really important for the area in which you work. As I understand it, once you're hired on at a hospital, you're not really considered to know what you're doing until after a couple of months of orientation. This is even more true in critical care areas. So don't worry too much...you'll be fine! Just my :twocents:
