Resurrection University 2017

Published

I am projected to graduate in April '18, I decided to write this, because I would have liked to have found this when I was debating on nursing school and had questions. I hope this helps someone in the same or similar boat.

I applied for Resurrection University because it had an accelerated BSN (days and nights) program. I took the prerequisites at Harry S. Truman and Wilbur Wright CCC. I got my Associates of Science degree at Harry S. Truman. I took the TEAS test and passed. You need a 69 or greater to get accepted (At least in 2016, when I applied it was) I did have a classmate that said she got a 66 and was still accepted by the committee board, I am not sure if it was because she is a phlebotomist or what. I guess you can discuss it with your rep.

Anyways. I did the night/weekends program.

Orientation, take a tour of the school, ask any questions, even if you think they might not be important, take a picture for your ID, you get it same day within a few minutes, you get a welcome package with important information. I recorded my orientation, they can also email you the PPT that explains the breakdown of how the program works and what you can expect.

Because the EW = Evening/weekend is longer by one semester, the first semester of the program is 14 weeks long with an additional class called Transitional Success (NO cost) they lecture about all the resources you have available in the Library, Tutoring, and among other things. They also give you pizza, and drinks at the last lecture.

Night: Evening/Weekend = 5 semesters, Which is 10 terms.

Terms = A, B, C, D, E, F, A, B, C, D

Clinical's are Saturday - Sunday, placements can be within a 50 miles radius of Chicago. Rain or shine, you need to be on time.

They really push for car pooling, if you drive, or take the bus, train, uber, etc..

Placement is only switched in extreme circumstances, other than that you are placed and are to attend that placement.

Usually the first two OR last two Saturday and Sunday's, after that it just Sunday or just Saturday Clinical's.

Classes are during the week, typically can be:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

5P - 8P

5P - 7P

My elective was Thursday 4p - 6p (Not the same day as regular class) So I had class 4 days M - Th.

Role Transition

***Two weeks into role transition, there is a comprehensive ATI that determines if you will pass the NCLEX, if you get below a 69 you fail, you can retake a second time before graduation. You should get somewhere above 90's. If you fail, the third time, you pay for a remedial class. (Not too sure, this is what I have heard from others that have taken it passed or failed)

Days program

I am not too sure about the day program. I do have a mock schedule and some information from people passing by. This is very heavy and accelerated, some people have kept their job full time or part time and are doing fine, but others work part time and find it difficult. It varies, but all the more, if you can do it, DO IT! I have a lot of respect for people in my cohort that are parents, working and going to school.

Classes and Clinical are during the weekdays, so you can have class Monday 8a - 11a and clinical Tuesday 6a - 3p...etc..
