resume and cover letter help

hey everyone,

i've been a quiet observer since i graduated in may 2011 and let me just say, i wish i knew about this site while i was in school! anyway i graduated with a bsn and passed my nclex exam in june 2011. after having issues in obtaining my license i finally have an active RN license in nj.

i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with my resume and cover letter? since i've passed my test i've applied to many hospitals and haven't received any calls and i'm thinking it might be because of my resume and/or cover letter. my professor had actually helped me prepare my resume, but i feel like it's lacking. my only relevant experiences are my clinical rotations and my professor told me it'd be wise not to describe my duties since it is already known and expected. i also listed other volunteer experiences and organization leadership experiences. i have other work experience, but found it not wise to list since they are unrelated to the medical field and lasted no more than 6 months.

since my resume feels short, i try to get more of myself out in my cover letters, but i'm having a hard time determining what is unnecessary. my cover letters are a page but i find that they are lengthy only because i have so much to say!

sorry for the length but i just want someone to give me a chance. i may not have taken nursing seriously to start, but when i finished i knew that this was something i wanted to excel in.
