Relocation?

Nurses Recovery

Published

After lurking around here for awhile I think its finallytime to say hello,

First of all I'd like to say that this forum is a wealthof information, I've used it extensively to help guide me through my nursingschool experience.

What brings me herre tonight it this, I have a situation I would like a little reflection on.

But first a little background info:

I'am a recovering alcoholic who is getting ready tograduate nursing school.

Between 1989 and 1999 I managed to get myself into a lot oftrouble: 4 DUIs , a criminal damaging charge and a trespassing charge.

I live in Ohio, were expungment of a DUI is not anoption.

I was also arrested and initially charged with a felony, but my case was dropped before I even went to court. I was able to have this incidentexpunged.

The nursing program I am involved in is a 1+1, first yearyou're eligible to test for LPN, second year RN.

I mailed my LPN application to the BON with courtdocuments and a written letter explaining how it was, what happened and what I amlike now, after 6 weeks I received a letter to inform me that my app had beenturn over to the compliance unit and that they would contact me if anyadditional info was needed. I'm certainthat if I am allowed to test, my license will be restricted. No problem, I understand.

But.....after a little researching I've discovered that somestates BON are little more...forgiving than Ohio, for instance the North DakotaBON only seems interested in felonies, I was considering withdrawing my Ohioapplication and applying there, relocation isn't an issue.

Is my plan flawed? Tell me what you think.
