I am a 5 year experienced BSN nurse working in Trauma and Surgical ICU. My husband's job is relocating us to Tampa from Detroit and I have been talking with a recruiter who said Florida nurses make significantly lower pay than other states. Is this true? I make 27.80 in thr Detroit area at a level 1 trauma hospital. Thought I could get some insight. Also, since I have limited knowledge of this..what are HCA systems? Seems like a lot of hospitals are being bought out by hca's...this is all new to me! Thanks for any info!

The pay in Florida is lower. With 5 years of ICU experience, I would guess to say you may be able to start at 25 or 26 an hour if you want to be full time. Maybe more? HCA is a large hospital system. In the Tampa area, there are three systems generally: HCA, Baycare, Florida Hospital. There is also Tampa General which is the Level 1 and a few other hospitals in Hillsborough/Pinellas. A lot of people complain about HCA and say "beware"! I've never worked there so I cannot speak from experience. Any other specific questions, shoot...

Your best bet if you want to work in a trauma hospital would be tampa general not sure about the pay, I work for baycare and I make just about what you are making in Detroit with 5 yrs experience and BSN.
