Relocating to Columbus, Ohio HELP!!!!!!

Hey, I am new to this forum, so Hello :) I am a GN who will be sitting for my boards in February. I have my ADN, and will eventually go back to school and get my BSN. I currently live in Central Florida and will be moving to the Columbus, Ohio area relatively soon. I will be taking the NCLEX in Ohio. From reading other forums on this site, there appears to be problems with new grads getting a job in CBus. I was wondering if that is still true?

I have been a Paramedic in Florida for 7 years. I have worked for the FD and currently in an Emergency Department(as a Paramedic). I have BLS/CPR, ACLS and PALS. Does that count as experience? Will that help me with a job hunt? I am not picky about where I work, PCU, Med/Surg, wherever. My love of course is Trauma/Emergency but I do not necessarily have to start there. I am willing to go anywhere! Any help or words of advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :D

Congrats on your recent graduation and upcoming relocation!!! Having lived in worked in Columbus previously, and still living/licensed in Ohio... I would have to say that if you start the process online with lots of apps to all the major hospitals in the area, you should have lots of interviews when you make your first trip up to start your relocation. It will certainly help if you already list a local address, they are more likely to call you in for an interview if they know you're already moved or just about to do so. It's hard for them to hire for a metro city that people say "I'm moving next month," and then they hire them and next month they get calls saying "I haven't found a place to live/didn't realize it would be as expensive to rent/I can't take the job now." So.... wait until you have a place rented so that you'll know the address (even if you haven't moved in yet), or rent a PO Box next time your in town for applications, or if you'll be staying with family/friends while you get adjusted to the area, ask if you can put their address on your apps. Otherwise, your experience in GREAT!!! Because of the large amount of ADN (and for that matter BSN) nursing programs (lots of colleges in this town), employers are soooooo use to seeing applications with no experience or STNA healthcare experience. The fact that you've been a paramedic and have current trauma experience... I think you'll have multiple offeres from either OSU hospital (great ongoing education benefits if you're thinking of going back to school), or at the Mount Carmel healthcare system or Nationwide Children's Hospital or Urgent Cares. GOOD LUCK and happy holidays!!!
