Hello!
I just recently moved to Florida, and I just finished my last pre-requisite (Microbiology) yesterday and pulled out an A. I am applying for the program this September but I'm freaking out!!!! Before I knew I wanted to be a nurse, I spent my freshman year of college screwing around and got a 2.9 GPA Then I moved and I figured out I wanted to be a nurse, and at that school I got a 3.8 GPA. But cumulative, my GPA is only a 3.18!!! It's terrible!!!!
I haven't taken my TEAS V test yet, I just got the ATI study guide and will be studying for a week before I take it.
I wish they wouldn't look at cumulative GPA, because my pre-requisites GPA is rock solid (only made A's and B's). Do they weigh the grades more on your sciences, or is it purely just your GPA? I don't think they do an interview here, I think they only look at GPA and TEAS scores.
I NEED to know, if you were rejected or not, what was your GPA?? What were your TEAS scores (if you remember)?? And what term and year was it?? I'm FREAKING OUT! I feel like such a loser, I'm 21 and still have nothing to show for it, and if I get rejected this fall then it won't be until I'm 24 that I'll graduate with an Associate's for Nursing!! I feel like a loser
Thanks in advance for telling me your scores and stories!!!!

First off...don't feel like a loser! Ok...had to get that out of the way.
To answer your question DSC looks at your overall GPA not solely your pre-requisites. It is highly competitive and you have to remember that there are quite a few prospectives applying that are straight out of high school or only have classes geared towards the ADN under their belts; so the "cut off" GPA for admission varies from semester to semester. My suggestion would be to take some more classes (Pre BSN AA...if you plan on going that far or more) to boost up your GPA. On a side note with my suggestion you need to keep in mind that Finacial Aid only covers 150% of your chosen degree and I believe with the ADN program that would be at about 111 credits....this is counting everything else on your transcript; even transferred credits. The absolute lowest GPA I've ever heard of for the program is a 3.2 or 3.3 I believe...but don't let that stress you out too much please...remember I said the cut off is based on the applying students GPA's. When I applied mine was a 3.6, and got accepted first attempt...this was for the program starting in the fall.(so I applied in September just as you are)..I am currently in my final semester set to graduate this December.
No the TEAS isn't a walk in the park...so ATI's study guide is your best tool to prepare being out of school for a while. If you happen to not pass it, you do have the ability to do remediation allowing you to retake the TEAS within three days versus waiting out the thirty.
Hope to hear some good news from you around Thanksgiving time...that will be around the time acceptance or denial letters hit the mail boxes. Dont stress it.....everything worth having is worth fighting for...and everything worth having doesn't come easily.....Best of Luck!
