Refused by CGFNS but qualification accepted by NYBON

Hi everyone,

As many of you here, my dream is to go to USA to practice nursing.

I try for the BON texas using CGFNS, I did a diploma of nursing in Belgium and I am actually working in the UK as RN adult.

I also Try NY BON because of my friend advice because she told me that it will be easier.

After many months and complicated exchange between, my nursing school and CGFNS and a lot of money expended on the process, they told me that my license was equivalent to a practical nursing education LPN.

I was astonished because I did a full 3 years in an accredited nursing school, I have all the necessary theoretical and practical hours, and my licence clearly stats that I am awarded a register Nurse  license (which they say in my cgfns report it is a nursing associate license).

I was clearly depressed by that report and of course couldn't continue to register as RN in Texas.

Few day ago I received an email from New york BON stating that my education is accepted and that I have the authorisation to pass the NCLEX.

I am really happy but since New york isn't a Compact state I will always be blocked in New York, which isn't the state I want.

I  think to still continue and do the NCLEX and have my license in New York and do a licensure by endorsement to another state but as I read everywhere I will still need my CGFNS report.

I am in the process of doing a one year TOP up nursing degree in uk to change my diploma to a BSN but I don't know if that will be enough for CGFNS.

I would like to have an exchange of experience, of people who gone through the same problem.

I'm from canada, but dual citizenship and from NY originally and am back here now.  I was wondering the same as my education was much longer and more thorough than the LPN education in NY.  Honestly, I was hoping I would qualify as an associates RN and not because I want the status, but the scope of an LPN where I was in Canada is equivalent to RN at this point so I would hate to give up all of my skills to not do as much as I have the last 11 years.

Someone told me not to bother with CGFNS.  For NYBON you can have your school send them your education directly apparently, but I' m not sure if this is a good idea? At times CGFNS seems like such a money grab to me.

Did you say NYBON recognized your license? But as an LPNs still?

Hi and thank you for your reply.

NYBON recognised my qualification as RN and gave me the autorisation to take the NCLEX.

I am still clearly in disbelief about CGFNS report.

I’m wonder if mine would be recognized as RN. My diploma says practical nursing, but my schooling was 2.5 years compared to the very short program nys has.
