References for iPod touch....switching from adults to peds

After 11 years in adult critical care, I am making the change to peds and nicu. I have wanted to work nicu for YEARS and finally landed a night float job that I will be working nicu, picu and regular peds floor. I am super excited and wanted suggestions for programs to load onto my iPod Touch that will be helpful resources during this transition.

Thanks for any advice and I am sure I will be back with many questions once I get started.

Honestly, there isn't much that I have loaded and actually kept. I use my calculator all the time and epocrates (drug ref. free from apple). I would also suggest that you load a version of the drug ref. used by your unit. (We use Neofax) and always follow up with it. I have loaded ABG programs and calculation programs, but I just don't use them that much. There is one that is a vaccination reference that could be handy if you are doing peds, but it doesn't really mean much in NICU. I know there are programs (some very pricy) that serve as a Kardex. I think those help more for a resident or MD that will be rounding on a patient consistently. My assignment seems to change daily!

Hope this helps!

OK....one more thing...you may think I am crazy, but I just loaded one of the free flashlight apps. When I was playing with it I noticed you can change the intensity and color. It made me wonder if it could work as a transilluminator. Obviously you would need to bag it or make hygenic provisions.....just made me think...

Thanks for the suggestions. I figured I would probably have to wait until I started orientation and see shat they use but I am just trying to be prepared. Plus my iPod is pretty new and exciting and any excuse to play with it works for me. ;)
